Biography
SongYi Paik is a fourth-year PhD student in Applied Economics at the University of Minnesota. Her research interest is primarily agricultural labor market, primarily focusing on labor shortages, immigration policy, and minimum wage. SongYi is also interested in environmental policies. Her recent work looks at the effect of the 2018 Chinese import ban on the global waste trade. Before pursuing her PhD, she received a Master’s in Agricultural and Applied Economics at Virginia Tech where she analyzed the determinants that influence adoption decisions of salt-tolerant rice varieties in saline-prone areas in Vietnam.
