Paul Glewwe Named Regents Professor

The College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS) is proud to announce that Paul Glewwe, PhD, a Professor in the Department of Applied Economics, has been awarded the prestigious title of Regents Professor by the University of Minnesota Board of Regents.

Established in 1965 by the Board of Regents to recognize the national and international prominence of faculty members, the Regents Professorship is the highest honor the University of Minnesota bestows on its faculty. It recognizes faculty who have made exceptional contributions to the University through teaching, research, scholarship, or creative work, and contributions to the public good.

Prof. Glewwe is a globally recognized expert in development economics, focusing his extensive research on household and individual behavior and welfare in developing countries. His work is particularly influential in the economics of education, where he investigates the factors that determine how much children learn in school, as well as critical issues surrounding poverty, inequality and child nutrition.

Prof. Glewwe has conducted impactful field research in more than a dozen countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America, including Ghana, Peru, Vietnam, and Nepal. He is a prolific author and editor of books and articles in top academic journals, significantly shaping the discourse in development economics. Known for his demanding yet highly rewarding graduate courses, Glewwe has been the main advisor for approximately 40 PhD students, preparing them for influential careers at organizations like the World Bank and the Gates Foundation.
